Paperworks by Karen and Martha

"Paperworks" is a collaboration between rural Gays Mills artist, Karen Riddet, and myself. We both work with paper to create our art and knew that our pieces would complement each other.

Karen is selling her beautiful quilling, or paper filigree. It's an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. Karen has been involved in the arts most of her life, with an associate degree in art. Her work has transitioned over the years from acrylic painting to creating hand made 1/12th scale miniatures and now to quilling.

I will be selling my vintage dressmaker's pattern art, paper doll collages, vintage paper artwork and my photography. My Elegant Decay art is the process of deconstructing and reconstructing to create something new and beautiful out of something old and discarded. I only started doing artwork in 2014, after retiring from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Karen and I will also be selling antiques, collectibles and curiosities.

Our stall,Vendor #88, is at "Crazy Frank's Readstown Flea Market Located on Hwy. 131.

Open Wednesday - Sunday, from 10 am - 5 pm.

An Amazing Year

It's been an amazing year for Elegant Decay by Martha, but it's not over yet! December promises to be a busy time with new artwork and donations being made to several local fundraisers. I'm also in in the talking stages of a new venture with another local artist. Stay tuned!

It's November, That means Christmas. WAIT--WHAT?

I've been told to get my Christmas items in to the gallery 'cause people are buying Christmas stuff already. YIKES! So I was able to get a few pieces done and delivered to the Planted Tree Gallery and Gifts in prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Something Old, Something New

When my sister-in-law gave me a pile of her old sewing patterns, she mentioned that one was the pattern of her wedding dress she had made in 1969, I knew I had to make it in to a gift for her.
She recently made the wedding dress into a christening dress for her granddaughter, so I was able to get some fabric, lace and trim from the original dress. I added a photo from the wedding and it turned out perfect!

Time is Flying!

Can it be March already? Winter gives me the opportunity to stay indoors and work each day in my art room. I've done more vintage pattern frames and shadow boxes and I have started working with vintage sheet music.
